Nainital – The Lake City

Enveloped in a thick foil of nature, accentuated by the scent of the flowering blossoms blending miraculously in the crisp fresh air, Nainital is truly the treasure trove of Kumaon. It is among the most visited hill stations of North India since British period.

Perched at an elevation of 2,084 metres above sea level, the glittering city of Nainital is hailed for being a parent to the ravishing Naini Lake from which it has earned the epithet of being the lake city.

Bhimtal

Bhimtal is a lake city named after Bhima, the charismatic mythological character of Mahabharata. Revered for its aesthetic beauty, Bhimtal proudly sits at an altitude of 1,370 metres above sea level. 

The Bhimtal lake is at a scenic spot with a small island at its centre on which there is a beautiful large aquarium which was previously a restaurant. Bhimtal affords splendid views and visual vistas of nature’s beauty.

Sattal

Sattal is a cluster of mysteriously inter-connected seven freshwater lakes located in the Nainital district of Kumaon region. Sat Tal is perched at an altitude of 1370 mts above sea level offering splendors of nature. The group of lakes is set amidst dense forests of oak and pine trees.

Sattal that literally suggests the ‘Seven Lakes’ is a scenic place which exhibits idyllic surroundings accentuated by the delightful atmosphere that could even tempt the lousy ones to have a rendezvous. Sattal is a perfect destination for the honeymooners, nature lovers, groups, families and the leisure seeking tourists.

Ranikhet

The charming hill station of Ranikhet is located in the Almora district of Uttarakhand at an elevation of 1,829 mts above sea level. Ranikhet has everything to pacify the nerves of an avid city dweller.

The hill station Ranikhet, literally meaning – Queens Land, is an all season tourist-spot for the admirers of the natural beauty. Ranikhet is a place that reflects the best of the great Himalayas.

Ghorakhal Golu Devta Temple

Ghorakhal Golu Devta Temple is one of a kind temple, in that place the devotees come with prayers, not only with devotion, but with a physical piece of paper. These are left in the Golu Devta temple. Visitors can see the plain papers, to legal bond papers, beautiful colourful sheets, to even some job application forms hang here. Once the prayers are answered the devotee comes back and puts up a brass bell. Looks like size of the bell is proportional to the prayer answered since you’d see bells of all sizes hanging here, thousands or lakhs in number.

Kainchi Dham

Kainchi Dham is a Hanuman temple & Ashram which is established by a great saint Neem Karoli Baba in 1960s. It’s a holy temple surrounded by hills and trees and river flowing besides it. You can feel the great strengths and presence of Hanuman Ji in the Ashram. This place has achieved recognition owing to the ashram of the famous Neem Karoli Baba. The scenic location adds to the beauty of the place.

It is located in between two hills that cut and cross each other to create a shape of scissor. That’s why this place is called as “Kainchi Dham”. On September 10, 1973 baba got Samadhi in Virandhawan. In 70s Steve Jobs (Ex CEO of Apple) once visited and meditated in this temple and Mark Zuckerberg (CEO of Facebook) also visited this place. On 15th June every year a fair is organized by ashram which is famous among locals and tourists.

Tea Garden Shyamkhet

If you are a teetotaler or simply a tea lover, the place is a blessing for you. Lying on the vicinity to Golu Devta temple, the Shyamkhet Tea Garden produces wide range of tea leaves including organic tea which is also exported.

Naukuchiatal

Naukuchiatal literally suggests a nine-cornered Lake, perched at an elevation of 1220 mts above sea level in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand state. The length of the lake is approximately 1 km and it has a depth of around 40 mts. It is the deepest lake in the greater Nainital area.  

Naukuchiatal is situated in an enchanting valley providing ample scope for boating, rowing, paddling, and yatching.

Mukteshwar

Mukteshwar, which sits in the Kumaon Hills in the Nainital District is that place that mesmerized Corbett when he came here to hunt down a tiger. Today, a lot of people come here and feel the same way as this great conservationist once did. Surrounded by the sky-kissing rolling hills, Mukteshwar is a place to plan your honeymoon as well as family vacation. What adds to the grace of this place is the sacred Hindu temple located on top of the hill from which the town has got its name. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Mukteshwar Dham temple is the main attraction in this hill station in Kumaon Region of Uttarakhand.
